Mary helped put the Colby-Sawyer Equestrian program on the map, serving as both the team MVP and captain, and then later as assistant and head coach for the program.

As a student at Colby-Sawyer, Mary spent four seasons with the equestrian team, serving as the team's most valuable rider for her first two seasons and as team captain for two seasons. She returned to the team as an assistant coach in 1988 and was a part of the first ever team to qualify for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition and was an assistant during the National Championship team of 1989.

In 1991, Drueding took over as head coach, and led the Chargers to their second National Championship in 1994 and also led the team to top-10 finishes on two separate occasions.
