The 1993-1994 Colby-Sawyer riders became the first and only team in Colby-Sawyer history to win an unshared national championship – the 1989 equestrian team had shared its national title. Along with winning the International Horse Show Association National Championship outright, the 1993-1994 team produced first place finishers in intermediate equitation on the flat – Mary Lewis '96; open equitation on the flat – Lauren Smyrl '97; and walk-trot equitation – Alexandra MacKenzie '96; as well as a second place in novice equitation on the flat and a fifth place in novice equitation over fences – both by Sarah Holmes '95. Others who contributed to the team's history making success were riders Dana Healy '94 (captain) and Heather Lanoue '97, as well as Head Coach Mary Drueding '83 and Assistant Coach Anne Kozikowski.
