NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Chargers ended 2022 on a high note after three teams clinched playoff berths and brought home two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships and GNAC Runner Up titles this fall.
Cross Country:
The men's and women's cross-country team raced their way to another successful season. The Chargers began 2022 by hosting the 4
th Annual Chargers Invitational. The Colby-Sawyer women made a statement by sweeping the top five places to secure the first victory of the new season. The Chargers continued their dominant performance into the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Meet and collected their second championship title. Senior
Shannon O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) completed the 6K race in 24:11.8 which was good to secure first place. O'Connell's top performance earned her the 2022 GNAC Women's Runner of the Year award and a spot on the GNAC First All-Conference Team. She was joined by five other Chargers to be selected to All-Conference Teams honors. At the NCAA East Regional, seven women represented Colby-Sawyer with sophomore
Samantha Carus (Brownfield, Maine) headlining after her 46
thplace finish.
On the men's cross-country team, the Chargers opened the year with a second-place team finish at the 4
thAnnual Chargers Invitational. Junior
Jordan Piechowski (Windham, Maine) had an impressive start to the season after recording a personal best of 29:02.6 in the 8K race at the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth Invitational. The Chargers also had a strong performance at the GNAC Championship Meet where the men's team finished in second place. Piechowski led the charge as the top runner for the men finishing in 7
th place with a time of 30:34.8, good for a selection to the GNAC First All-Conference Team. Five more Chargers also earned GNAC All-Conference Teams honors after their championship meet performance. Once again, Piechowski raced his way to another top performance for the Chargers at the NCAA East Regional clocking in at 29:52.7.
Field Hockey:
The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team completed the 2022 season with a 13-6 overall record while also holding an impressive 8-3 GNAC record. The Chargers started the year with a thrilling 4-3 home opener victory over Plymouth State University on September 3
rd. Colby-Sawyer would secure fourth place in the GNAC standings to earn a home playoff match against Rivier University, the same program that handed them their first conference loss of the year. Colby-Sawyer got their revenge after defeating Rivier 2-0 to advance to the semifinals where they faced off against Johnson & Wales University. The Chargers gave the reigning GNAC Champions a hard-fought match, but the Wildcats would end Colby-Sawyer's tournament run after falling 1-0.
The 2022 season delivered several record-breaking highlights for the Colby-Sawyer field hockey team. On September 9
th, first year
Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) made program history after scoring four goals in the Chargers 8-0 win over the University of Maine – Farmington. Gaudette's stellar rookie season continued when she set another record for assists in a single game. The first year dished out five assists in the Chargers 6-1 win over Regis College. Senior
Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) tallied her 11
th game-winning goal of her collegiate career on September 14
th against New England College to become the all-time leader in game-winners for Colby-Sawyer. Daly would also reach 42 points during the quarterfinals match to break the program record for most points in a season, a record she previous set during the 2021 season. On the defensive end, junior
Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) posted a program-record three defensive saves in a match during the regular season contest against Johnson & Wales. Murph would end the year with six defensive saves, putting her at nine total in her career, to become the all-time leader in defensive saves as a Charger.
Men's Soccer:
The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team entered the 2022 season with a new face at the helm. Head coach
Zachary Grady began his first season as a Charger with an impressive home opener victory defeating Clark University 4-1 on September 1
st. Colby-Sawyer had another memorable win on September 20
th after defeating Elms College 2-0 on Kelsey Soccer Field. Sophomore
Jah Gordon (Pittsfield, N.H.) notched his first collegiate goal as a Charger in the win off a corner kick by senior
Callum Buchanan (Eastbourne, England). The Chargers missed out on playoffs ending the year in 10
th place in GNAC standings with an overall record of 5-11-3.
Buchanan ended his senior year registering nine goals, tied for 9
th overall in the conference, and five assists after starting in all 19 games for the Chargers. His performance earned him a selection to the GNAC Third All-Conference Team. Joining him on the GNAC Third All-Conference Team was sophomore
Jadon Baros (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Baros finished out the year with five goals and four assists totaling at 14 points. First year goalkeeper
Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was awarded a selection to the GNAC All-Rookie Team following an impressive season for Colby-Sawyer. After starting in 17 games in net for the Chargers, Bartolon recorded 124 saves with a 75.2% save percentage.
Women's Soccer:
The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer program completed the 2022 season with a 7-10-4 overall record and 5-5-3 conference record. Head coach
Anthony Cosky, who entered his first season as a Charger, earned his first win on September 10
th against Anna Maria College 4-0 with junior
Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) and sophomore
Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) each scoring two goals apiece. In the Chargers 5-0 Senior Day victory over Rivier University, Keiper tallied her first collegiate hat-trick. Senior
Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) earned their fourth clean sheet in net for the Chargers and would finish the year with eight total shutouts after making 123 saves. Colby-Sawyer secured 7
th place in the GNAC standings to clinch a playoff berth. In the semifinals, the Chargers battled against Lasell University however Colby-Sawyer would fall to the Lasers 4-0 to end the 2022 season. The GNAC announced three Chargers, senior captain

Women's Rugby:
The Colby-Sawyer women's rugby team kicked off their 2022 season at Castleton University on September 4
th. The Chargers went 1-2 after playing three matches against the Spartans. Senior
Celina Dao (Portland, Ore.) made the game-winning try and senior
Tori MacLeod (Franklin, Mass.) nailing the first conversion of the year to win game three with a 12-10 final. The Chargers ended their season at home hosting three 7's matches on Mercer Field during homecoming weekend. Colby-Sawyer battled against Norwich University and pulled away with the win in the final match thanks to
Grace McLaughlin (Brownville, Maine) who scored two tries and was later named the player of the match.
Women's Tennis:
The Chargers women's tennis team were crowned the 2022 GNAC champions for the third time in the past four years. Colby-Sawyer finished the season with a 10-3 overall record and went undefeated against conference opponents with a 6-0 record. The first match of the season was on September 3
rd against Endicott College. The Chargers would fall to the Gulls 8-1 with sophomore
Elise Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior
Alyssa Owens (Grain Valley, Mo.) getting the victory in doubles action. On September 11
th, Colby-Sawyer got back to their winning ways after sweeping Emerson College 9-0. The team would continue to dominate opponents on the court going on an eight-match winning streak including an impressive win over Wheaton College on October 2nd. The Chargers clinched playoffs after securing the number one seed and hosted Lesley University in the semifinals. Senior

Six Chargers were awarded GNAC All-Conference Team honors after their stellar season. Sophomore
Grace Carpenter (Milford, N.H.) and junior
Alyssa Owens (Grain Valley, Mo.) were named to the GNAC First All-Conference Singles Team. Senior
Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.), sophomore
Elise Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.) and Isabella Gutierrez Avendaño (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) also earned GNAC All-Conference Second Team Singles squad. Hogan also was named the GNAC Tournament MVP after scoring four points in the postseason. She was joined by Owens on the GNAC Second Doubles Team after a perfect 6-0 record as a doubles pair. Both Owens and Gutierrez Avendaño earned a spot on the GNAC All-Rookie Team while sophomore Amelia Campenella (Chepachet, R.I.) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Women's Volleyball:
The women's volleyball team concluded the 2022 season with a 9-18 overall record and a 5-8 conference record. The Chargers picked up their first victory of the year on September 2
nd against Worcester State University winning 3-2 (). On September 19
th, Colby-Sawyer would earn their first GNAC win defeating Dean College 3-1 () in the Dan & Kathleen Hogan Sports Center. In the match senior
Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.) led the team with 20 kills along with eight digs. Another highlight of the season was from sophomore
Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) who recorded a career-high 49 assists at New England College on September 22nd. Senior
Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) made an impressive match against University of Saint Joseph's getting a career-high 16 kills along with one assist, two digs, and a solo block.
Two Chargers were selected to GNAC All-Conference Teams including
Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) who was named to the GNAC Third All-Conference Team. Harmon finished the season with 203 kills along with 33 service aces and 63 digs. Senior
Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) was also named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Cotten ended her 2022 season with 153 kills, 18 digs, and 53 blocks.
