WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer College Field Hockey team opened the 2026 season in dramatic fashion on Tuesday evening, taking down Wellesley College by a 3-2 final in double overtime at Butler Stadium.

Both squads spent the opening ten minutes settling into the new campaign before the Chargers generated the game's first major threat with under four minutes remaining in the opening frame. Junior Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) put a shot on cage that was turned aside, but the rebound resulted in a Colby-Sawyer penalty stroke.

With 4:03 remaining before halftime, Colby-Sawyer drew their second penalty stroke of the night. Senior Kylie Walden (Bellingham, Mass.) stepped up and calmly buried the opportunity into the back of the cage to give the Chargers a 1-0 advantage at the break.

Colby-Sawyer doubled their lead 5:31 into the third quarter when Farquhar slipped a pass across to sophomore Jillian Fredette (Weare, N.H.), who finished the feed for her first goal of the season.

The Blue answered back late in the frame, cutting the deficit in half at the 42:54 mark before evening the score at 2-2 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter.

After a scoreless, defense-heavy first overtime period, the Chargers capitalized early in the second extra session. Awarded a penalty corner less than three minutes into the second overtime, a scramble in front of the net saw Jillian Fredette dish the ball over to Farquhar, who slotted the game-winner at 72:12 to seal the victory. This would mark Farquhar's ninth career game winner, moving her solely in third place in program histroy.
