WORCESTER, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team improved to 2-0 on the young season Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-1 non-conference victory over Worcester State at John Coughlin Stadium.

Following a defensive, scoreless opening quarter where neither side could find the back of the cage, junior Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) put the Chargers on the board at the 18:45 mark of the second quarter thanks to a beautiful assist from Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) to give Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 edge heading into halftime.

Farquhar struck again early in the second half, doubling the Charger advantage at 33:57 with her second goal of the afternoon and third goal of the season.

The Lancers cut the deficit in half late in the third frame when Abby Matta found the back of the net at 44:13 to bring Worcester State within one heading into the final quarter.

Colby-Sawyer iced the victory with under two minutes left in regulation as sophomore Zoe Dries (Windham, Maine) slotted home her first goal of the season at 58:19 thanks to Olden's second assist of the game to secure the 3-1 road triumph.

Farquhar powered the offense with two goals on a game-high six shots, placing five on target. Olden added two assists to record her first pair of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sophie Krauss (Essex, Vt.) delivered another strong performance in net, making nine saves across the full 60 minutes to collect her second victory of the season.

Colby-Sawyer outshot Worcester State 15-11 (9-10 on goal) and held a 3-2 edge in penalty corners.
