NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 25, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's lacrosse team has earned the fourth seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament and will host fifth seed Simmons on Saturday at noon.
Colby-Sawyer was selected sixth in the preseason poll, while Simmons was picked fifth. The Chargers went 10-6 overall and 7-4 in the GNAC regular season. Simmons was 9-6 overall and 7-4 in the GNAC. Saint Joseph's (Maine) also went 7-4 in league action, but Colby-Sawyer won the tiebreaker scenario to earn the fourth seed.
Saturday's contest will be the third all-time meeting between the two teams. Simmons edged the Chargers 14-13 last season, while Colby-Sawyer defeated the Sharks 18-5 earlier this season. Both games were played in Boston.
Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) scored six times, while
Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) posted five goals and an assist to lead Colby-Sawyer to the victory.
Simmons will enter the game having won four-straight. The Sharks are led by sophomore Molly Reinhold. She has scored 49 goals to go with 13 assists. Molly Cottam is next in points with 49 on 35 goals and 14 assists. Missie Maiewski rounds out the top three scorers with 47 points on 32 goals and 15 assists. Cat Cross has a 10.25 goals against average and a .433 save percentage in the cage for Simmons.
Colby-Sawyer has lost two-straight heading into the postseason.
Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) leads the Chargers with 62 points on 32 goals and 30 assists. Schuster has 58 points on 47 goals and 11 assists, while Morin is next with 55 points on 46 goals and nine helpers.
Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) has allowed 10.22 goals per game and has a .458 save percentage.
