Game One – Colby-Sawyer 2, New England College 1 – 10 innings – BOX SCORE

Colby-Sawyer hurler Mike Bowse (Merrimack, N.H.) set a school record for most innings pitched in a single game with 10. He earned his second win of the season allowing one run on nine hits and struck out four.

New England College pitcher Eric Johnson (Whitman, Mass.) tossed 9 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run. He struck out six batters.
After four and a half scoreless innings to begin the game, Colby-Sawyer put a run across in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Justin Devoid (Quechee, Vt.) led off the frame with a single to right and came around to score on a RBI single by senior Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.).

The Pilgrims quickly tied the game in their next at-bat when Steve DeLuca (Coxsackie, N.Y.) drove in Jordan Hubbard (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) with a knock to left field.

The game-winning run came in the bottom of the 10th. With runners on second and third and one out, NEC was forced to bring the infield in. Junior Rob Wallace (Tewksbury, Mass.) hit the ball sharply to the short stop, but he could not come up with a play, allowing Monahan to score the game clincher.

Monahan led the Chargers with a 3-for-4 effort, a run scored and a RBI.

Hubbard was the only Pilgrim with a multi-hit afternoon in the first game. He was an impressive 4-for-5 from the plate.
