BASEBALL EXTENDS RECORD STREAK TO 10 GAMES WITH SWEEP OVER ELMS

New London, NH – The Chargers played against Elms College for a GNAC doubleheader on Wednesday at Kelsey Baseball Field. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Will Carpenter (Medfield, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Luke Guyer was the starting pitcher for the Blazers. 

  • Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) hit an RBI single for the Chargers in the bottom of the 1st to give Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead. 

  • In the 2nd inning, Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) hit a home run to left field to double the Charger lead. Dennis hit a 2 RBI double to give the Chargers a four-run lead going into the 3rd inning. 

  • Andrew Ciaglo scored for Elms in the 3rd inning. 

  • Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA) hit an RBI double in the 4th for the Chargers. 

  • Eliam Martinez and Colin Faber both hit RBI singles for the Blazers in the 5th inning. Martinez hit a two-run home run in the 6th inning for Elms. The Chargers led 6-5. 

  • In the bottom of the 6th, Staffier hit an RBI single to shortstop. Janai Cruz (Manchester, NH) hit a 2 RBI single for the Chargers. 

  • The Chargers won the first game of the doubleheader 9-5. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Carpenter and Simon Keary (Penacook, NH) both pitched for the Chargers. Carpenter earned his second win of the season, and Keary earned his second save of the season. 

  • Staffier hit his second home run of the season, while going 2-3 from the plate. Cruz was 3-3 from the plate for the Chargers. Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA), Dennis, and Chaves all had two hits. 

  • Martinez was 3-4 from the plate for the Blazers. 

  • The Chargers combined for 12 hits. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Scott Cooper was the starting pitcher for the Blazers. 

  • Watson hit an RBI single to center field for the Chargers in the 3rd inning. In the same inning, Jacob Putnam (North Haverhill, NH) hit an RBI single and Mike McLeer hit a 2 RBI double. 

  • In the 5th inning, Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) scored a run and Staffier hit a 2 RBI single. The Chargers led 7-0. 

  • Faber hit an RBI groundout in the 6th for Elms. Nason Busca, Nicky Calvanese, and Raynel Rodrgiuez all earned RBIs in the 6th for the Blazers. 

  • In the bottom of the 6th, Putnam hit an RBI triple for the Chargers. McLeer hit an RBI single into right field. 

  • In the 8th inning, McLeer earned an RBI. Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) hit a 2 RBI single, and Cruz and Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) both earned RBIs. 

  • The Chargers won the second game of the doubleheader 14-4. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • McMannus and Colby Russell (Dover, NH) pitched for the Chargers. McMannus earned the win. 

  • McLeer and Montalvo both were 3-4 from the plate. 

  • Busca was 2-3 from the plate for the Blazers. 

  • The Chargers combined for 13 hits. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers return to action on Saturday when they host Saint Joseph's College of Maine for Senior Day at Kelsey Baseball Field. The first game is set to start at 12.
