Chargers Use Four Pitchers to Blank Daniel Webster 5-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 24, 2012 – Four Colby-Sawyer pitchers combined for a 5-0 shutout victory over Daniel Webster in a nine inning non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon. Colby-Sawyer celebrated senior day prior to the game.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 18-20, while the Eagles drop to 17-16.

Colby-Sawyer broke through with the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. After a leadoff double by sophomore Andy Lapple (Newtown, Conn.), senior Justin Martin (Lebanon, N.H.) hit a run scoring single to right field.

Senior Greg Mehuron (Waitsfield, Vt.) knocked in Colby-Sawyer's second run in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Eagles threatened in the top of the eighth with a pair of singles, but failed to get a run on the board.

Colby-Sawyer tacked on three runs in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded and the infield pulled in, Andy Lapple slapped a grounder up the middle that plated a pair of runs. Sophomore Jon Wylie (Middleboro, Mass.), the next batter and pinch hitter, hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Mehuron.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Kevin Keith (Quincy, Mass.) worked the first three innings and did not give up a hit to earn his sixth victory of the season. Senior Ryan Gillan (Alton, N.H.) worked the next three innings in perfect fashion with one strikeout. Senior Brendan Harding (Medford, Mass.) pitched the seventh and eighth innings and allowed three hits. Senior Greg Doucette (Ipswich, Mass.) finished the game in the ninth and recorded one strikeout.

Junior Korey LeLievre (Hudson, N.H.) took the loss for the Eagles. He gave up two runs in seven innings.

The Chargers will play at Castleton on Friday at 11:00 am in the first round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament. Daniel Webster plays at Salem State on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
