NEW LONDON, N.H. - April 1, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team lost both ends of Sunday's doubleheader to Thomas College. Thomas won game one 6-2 and game two 10-2.
The Terriers held the Chargers bats in check allowing only six hits on the day. With the wins, Thomas improves to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference play. The Chargers fall to 7-11 and 1-5 in NAC play.
BOX SCORE - GAME 1 - Thomas 6, Colby-Sawyer 2
Thomas opened the first game on a Jeff Richardson (Rochester, N.H.). After a pair of walks Cody Vigue (Skowhegan, Maine) would bring Richardson home on a sacrifice fly to right field giving the Terriers an early 1-0 lead.
The Chargers would respond in the bottom of the first on a
Sean Gavin single. Gavin would advance to third on a
Greg Mehuron single and score when
Tyler Stotz grounded into a double play tying the game at 1-1.
Colby-Sawyer took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third as
Kyle Greenwood tripled to start the inning. Mehuron would single to give the Chargers a one run lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Terriers bats came alive to score four runs. Ben Goodall (Norway, Maine) doubled to center field and was driven home by a Cody Vigue double. Vigue would score on the next play as Tim Locke (Waterville, Maine) singled to center. After a walk to Thomas Cameron (Jackson, Maine), John Charves would single to score Locke. The Chargers would commit two straight errors allowing for Cameron to score the Terriers fourth run of the inning giving them a 5-2 lead.
Thomas would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 6-2. Senior Danny Burke (New Haven, Conn.) would hold the Chargers to five hits in the game, pitching a complete game for the win. Ben Goodall led the Terriers hitting two for three and scoring two runs.
For the Chargers, senior
Greg Mehuron added a pair of hits and one RBI.
Brendan Harding pitched 4+ innings allowing five runs on seven hits in the loss.
BOX SCORE - GAME 2 - Thomas 10, Colby-Sawyer 2
Thomas opened game two of the double header with a three run first. Ethan Hurley (Hudson, N.H.) singled to start the inning. Joshua Gray (Eliot, Maine) advanced Hurley to second on a single. Cody Vigue doubled to right field scoring Hurley and advancing Gray to third. Tim Locke would drive in both Gray and Vigue on a single to left field giving the Terriers an early 3-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Cody Vigue doubled to center field and scored on a Tim Locke single extending the Thomas lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Chargers would commit three errors and a wild pitch allowing the Terriers to score two additional runs on only one hit in the inning and building their lead to 6-0.
Colby-Sawyer would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth.
Sean Gavin singled to center field giving the Chargers their only hit of the game. After a pair of walks,
Tyler Stotz would drive Gavin home on a sacrifice fly to right field making the score 6-1 in favor of the Terriers.
Thomas would add two more runs in the top of the fifth. Cody Vigue continued his impressive day with a stolen base and would score on Taylor Livingston (N. Andvoer, Mass.) single to left field. Wes Perreault (Rochester, N.H.) advanced Livingston to second on a single up the middle. Jeff Richardson would drive in the second run of the inning on a double to right field giving Thomas a commanding 8-1 lead.
The Chargers would capitalize on a Terrier error in the bottom of the sixth making the score 8-2. However, Thomas would respond in the top of the seventh with two more runs to push the lead to 10-2.
The Terriers had 10 runs on fifteen hits. Junior Eric Sucy pitched a complete game one-hitter for the win, striking out three. Cody Vigue went three for four scoring three runs and adding an RBI. Tim Locke went two for three and had three RBI's for the Terriers in the win.
Sean Gavin had the lone hit for the Chargers.
Jordie Scheiner pitched 4+ innings giving up eight runs on nine hits in the loss.
Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Tuesday when they host North Atlantic Conference foe New England College at 2:00pm. Thomas hosts Husson Tuesday in NAC play.
