Chargers Unleash Offense in 20-10 Win Over Terriers

HENNIKER, N.H. - March 31, 2011 - Junior Molly Prudden scored a career high five goals to lead the Colby-Sawyer College women's lacrosse team to a 20-10 victory over Thomas College on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Chargers move to 4-5 on the season, while the Terriers drop to 1-2.

The Terriers opened the game with two quick goals by senior midfielder Megan Denby (Copiague, N.Y.) forcing the Chargers to call an early timeout. Colby-Sawyer's leading scorer, junior Brittney Murphy,  responded by netting two of her four goals and sophomore Laurel Bauer added her first goal of the game to give the Chargers a 3-2 lead.

Thomas' Ceara DiBiase (Westbrook, Maine) evened the score at three, but a Colby-Sawyer 5-0 run, including two goals from Samantha Draper gave the Charger's a lead they would not relinquish. The Terriers would close the margin to three when senior Kiley Jolicoeur (Oakland, Maine) netted her first goal of the game at the 11:15 mark in the first half. Three late first half goals pushed the Colby-Sawyer lead to 14-7 at the half.

The second half began with the Chargers continuing their offensive attack as Katherine Lee, Draper and Prudden each found the back of the net. Prudden would add three of the games last five goals pushing the Chargers' lead to 20-9. A late free position goal by the Terrier's Denby moved the score to 20-10.

The Chargers' balanced attack was led by Molly Prudden who netted five goals. Laurel Bauer added four goals and four assists and Brittney Murphy netted four goals and three assists in the win. Samantha Drapper scored three times and Hannah Cullen, Kate Rial, Katherine Lee and Julia Dziamba each scored goals. Liz Malenfant had 14 saves in the victory.

The Terriers' Kiley Jolicoeur and Megan Denby each had four goals and Ceara DiBiase netted a pair of goals. Goal keeper Teshia Cates (Skowhegan, Maine) had 14 saves.

Both Colby-Sawyer and Thomas return to action Saturday. The Chargers travel to face TCCC foe Regis College for a noon draw. Thomas will play at Green Mountain College at 2:00pm.
