Baseball Falls to Loras College Duhawks

Box Score DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Colby-Sawyer Chargers faced the Duhawks of Loras College who would extend their undefeated 12 game winning streak to 13 after a 10-0 win against the Chargers in a 7-inning game on Monday morning at the Mickey Etherton Field in Lake Myrtle Park.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Duhawks of Loras College scored first, bringing in three baserunners in a two hit inning to catch an early lead over the Chargers. Sophomore pitcher Matt Miller (Dracut, Mass.) controlled a two-runners on situation with a routine grounder and two pop flys to get out of the inning.
  • Junior Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) reached on a shot to right field and would then advance to second after a fielder's choice. Unfortunately, O'Brien would then be picked off to end the top of the fourth with a 3-0 score, Loras. The bottom of the fourth saw another Duhawk run extending their lead over the Chargers to four.
  • In the fifth, first-year Josh Finkle (Littleton, NH.) took the mound in his second career appearance. With runners on second and third, a base hit to right field would be recovered by junior captain Ian Turpel who would then throw out a runner at home for the first out of the inning. After a couple Duhawk runs, a diving catch by fellow junior captain Tommy Sasso (Grafton, Mass.) and a grounder to Finkle would get the Chargers out of the inning trailing by eight.
  • The bottom of the sixth would see another pitching change for Colby-Sawyer bringing first-year Erik Rohs (Lovettsville, Va.) to the mound for his second college appearance after pitching an inning against St. Lawrence University, collecting a strike out and only allowing one hit the night before.
  • The Duhawks reached 10 before the Chargers could score one taking a 10-0 run rule win over Colby-Sawyer.
