A four-point run sparked by an opposing attacking error, gave the Chargers a 7-2 advantage early in the set. Colby-Sawyer dominated the Saints with 12 total kills in the first set to the opposing 9.
- The second set was kicked off by a five-point run by the Chargers leading with a kill by junior Olivia Werner (Williston, VT.), assisted by senior captain Anna Allen (Los. Angeles). Offensively speaking, the Saints did a good job at competing with the Chargers as they recorded nine total kills to the Chargers eight. However, the attacking and serving errors from the Saints allowed the Chargers to take the second set 25-12.
- Tied at 11, first-year Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, ME) took back the lead with a kill. Thornton provided the Chargers six of their 14 kills during the third set. From there, the Saints were able to catch up to the Chargers knotting the score at 19 before a kill from junior Ava LaValle (Peabody, Mass.) snatched the lead right back. The Chargers reached 25, leaving the Saints at 21 to collect their first win of the day.
Rapid Recap (Albertus Magnus):
- The Chargers controlled the pace of the game as they recorded 11 total kills in the first set versus the Falcons six. Allen opened the match with two back-to-back serving aces to get a 2-0 lead over Albertus Magnus. Colby-Sawyer managed to maintain its lead throughout the set and came out victorious over the falcons, 25-12.
- Senior captain Riley Codman recorded an intensive kill to start the second set, followed by yet another kill, this time coming from the hands of LaValle. Halfway through the set, Harmon and fellow senior Sam Mohammed took turns earning kills and running up the score. The Falcons dropped the second set to the Chargers 25-9.
- For the first time on the day, the Falcons began the set scoring first due to a bad set by the Chargers. However, Werner was quick to respond as she provided a kill to even the score at one. From there, both teams battled as points went back and forth until two kills coming from junior Ameesah Cotton gave her team the advantage. The Chargers took the lead and ran with it taking the third and final set of the day 25-15.
Coaches Corner:
"I am incredibly proud of the growth of this team this season. Today was bittersweet; we played with heart, discipline, and determination—something we have been working on all season—and our Seniors truly left it all on the court. Anna, Riley, and Sam led with passion and determination this season; the future of this program will be built on their legacy." – Head Coach
Cailyn Straubel
