WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SEASON ENDS IN QUARTERFINALS

Newton, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team competed in the GNAC quarterfinals against #2 seeded Lasell University on Tuesday night. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • The Lasers took a 5-0 lead in the first set of the quarterfinal matchup. Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) registered a kill for the Chargers. Lasell would win the first set. 

  • The second set would see the Lasers take an 11-5 lead. Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) and Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) would each get a kill as the Chargers would close down the lead to make the score 13-8. Bacon would get a service ace and another kill as the Chargers would be only three points behind the Lasers, as the score stood at 16-13. Addison Sasnett (Virginia Beach, VA), Bacon, and Brakemeier would each get a kill in the rest of the second set. The Lasers would go on to win the second set. 

  • A strong start in the third set would see the Chargers lead 11-7. Sasnett would get a kill and a service ace as the Chargers would lead 16-14. Two kills from Brakemeier would see the Chargers lead 19-18, setting up for a dramatic ending in the third set between two strong teams. The teams would trade points until it would be even at 21. Sasnett and Piller would each contribute a kill as the score would once again be even at 24. The Lasers would win the third set. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Cassidy Ladd would lead the Chargers with five digs and two service aces. 

  • Brakemeier would lead the Chargers in kills with nine. 

  • Bacon would lead the Chargers in assists with 16. 

  • The Chargers finish the season with a conference win percentage of .538, which is the program's best since 2019. 

  • Tuesday marked the second-straight year that the Chargers have played in the GNAC quarterfinals.
