Box Score NASHUA, N.H. - April 13, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team earned a 5-3 victory in a single game at Daniel Webster on Thursday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 11-8 and will take their four-game win streak to Northfield, Vt. for a 3:30 p.m. 9-inning game at Norwich on Friday.
Colby-Sawyer was led by senior
Justin Devoid (Quechee, Vt.). He knocked in a pair of runs on three hits. Freshman
Tim Unczur (Danvers, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored. Junior
Andrew Pratt (New Sharon, Maine) added a pair of singles and an RBI.
The Chargers received solid pitching once again. Junior
Chris Hood (Manchester, N.H.) went the first four innings and gave up one run and struck out five. Freshman
AJ Cavossa (Foxborough, Mass.) struck out four and surrendered two runs, while junior
Andrew Carbone (Lynnfield, Mass.) earned the save by getting the final out of the game.
Daniel Webster used a committee with no pitcher throwing more than two innings. Five Eagles saw the mound on Thursday.
Colby-Sawyer wasted no time by plating a run in the top of the first. Devoid singled home Unczur to take a 1-0 lead.
The Chargers added two runs in the third on a sac fly from junior
Drew Inglesi (Franklin, Mass.) and a Pratt RBI single.
The home team broke through in the fourth on a bases loaded walk.
In the top of the sixth, Unczur singled to right field to score junior
Joey Fenuccio (Keene, N.H.).
Colby-Sawyer added an insurance run in the top of the ninth off the bat of Devoid. Senior
Nathan Frongillo came around to score on the knock to center field.
Daniel Webster scraped together a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth when Dan Mullins knocked in Kyle Hodgdon and then scored on a Dakota Williams singled, but Carbone shut the door to secure the 5-3 win for the Chargers.
