Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 12, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped both ends of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader to Husson University. The Eagles won game one 4-2 and game two 3-2.
Husson improves to 12-9 overall and 9-4 in the NAC, while the Chargers drop to 4-14 overall and 1-5 in conference action. The two teams will meet again on Sunday for a pair of games that begin at noon.
Game One – Husson 4, Colby-Sawyer 2 -
BOX SCOREColby-Sawyer broke the scoreless tie in the second inning with a pair of runs. Senior
Kyle Greenwood (Lyndonville, Vt.) hit a RBI triple to right center that scored senior
Jake Szulak (Middleboro, Mass.), who reached on an error. Greenwood then came around on a run scoring single by junior
Brett Emmertz (Falmouth, Maine).
After a scoreless third inning, the Eagles took the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore JT Whitten (Waterville, Maine) began the scoring when he crossed the plate on a pass ball. Three batters later, senior Josh Gaudette (Waterville, Maine) hit a two-run single to make it 3-2. Junior Jordan Carter (Ellsworth, Maine) knocked in the Eagles' fourth run with a single to center.
Sophomore hurler Brandon Reilly (Pemaquid, Maine) would go on to retire the Chargers in order over the final four innings to secure the 4-2 victory. Reilly went the distance to earn his second win of the season and allowed five hits and no earned runs.
Colby-Sawyer's
PJ Singster (Sandown, N.H.) also tossed a complete game. He surrendered seven hits and three earned runs in the loss.
Senior
Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.) had two hits to lead the Chargers, while Carter had a pair of knocks to pace Husson.
Game Two – Husson 3, Colby-Sawyer 2 -
BOX SCOREAll the scoring in the day's second game came in the first inning.
In the top of the first, Husson put three across on three hits and an error. Junior Kyle Bishop (Waterville, Maine) hit a RBI double to plate senior Pat Thibodeau (Caribou, Maine). Sophomore JT Whitten (Waterville, Maine) scored the second run on a wild pitch. Junior Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, Maine) knocked in Husson's third run with an infield single.
With the bases loaded, senior
Jon Wylie (Middleboro, Mass.) hit a fielder's choice. Senior
Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.) was able to beat the throw home to score Colby-Sawyer's first run. Freshman
Nathan Frongillo (Haverhill, Mass.) also scored on the play, when the pitcher's throw went wide of the catcher.
Thibodeau recorded a game-high three hits to lead Husson. Senior Dylan Foster (Oakland, Maine) and Bishop had a pair of hits apiece.
Junior
Brett Emmertz (Falmouth, Maine) led Colby-Sawyer with two hits.
Senior Pat McEwen (Brewer, Maine) threw a complete game for Husson, allowing six hits and one earned run. He struck out five to earn his second win of the season.
Sophomore
Mike Peters (Melrose, Mass.) tossed 5.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Chargers.
