Denali Sexton Nets Hat Trick in 6-1 Win over Green Mountain

POULTNEY, Vt. - October 14, 2014 – Freshman Denali Sexton scored a hat trick while teammate Andrew Clothier tallied a pair of assists as Colby-Sawyer College upended Green Mountain College 6-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.

Colby-Sawyer (8-4-1, 4-1-0 NAC) struck first when Alex Ortega blasted his sixth goal of the season into the upper left corner of the goal from just beyond 25 yards out to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute of play.

Sexton put the Chargers up 2-0 in the 29th minute of play with his sixth goal of the year on an unassisted strike. The score would remain the same as the teams headed into the break.

Sexton wasted no time in expanding the Chargers' lead to 3-0 as he and Clothier teamed up for a quick second half marker just 52 seconds into the second stanza.

Green Mountain (3-10-0, 0-6-0 NAC) forward Victor Gollub broke the string of CSC goals with a mark of his own in the 57th minute as he pumped in a rebound after shots by Nate Laymon and Gollub himself were first turned away to put the Eagles on the board. In fact, CSC keeper Nick Austin nearly saved the third shot as the ball grazed his outstretched hands and off the inside of the post before going in.

Sexton completed his hat trick at the 72:20 mark as he and Clothier hooked up again. Clothier volleyed a nice through ball into space for Sexton who made no mistake beating the Eagles' keeper for his eighth goal of the year.

Zach Anderson and Ege Basaran scored their second and first goals of the year, respectively to round out the scoring for the Chargers.

Austin made seven saves in net for the Chargers to notch his eighth win of the year, while Griffin Shelor made ten saves for the Eagles in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer outshot the Eagles 37-12 and held the edge in corner by a 15-3 margin.

GMC will be in action again on Friday as the Eagles host NAC foe Castleton State College at 3:30 p.m. Colby-Sawyer returns to action on October 18th with a game against Lyndon at home at 3:30 p.m.
