Men's Soccer Wins Sixth Straight; Defeats Lyndon 2-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 18, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team won its sixth straight match and recorded an eighth clean sheet of the season after Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) 3-0 victory over Lyndon at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.

The Chargers improve to 9-4-1 overall, matching last year's win total, and 5-1 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer will host Johnson State tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Lyndon drops to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in conference action. The Hornets play at New England College tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

Colby-Sawyer's top two goal scorers were at it again on Saturday. Freshman Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) scored his team leading ninth goal of the season at 9:01. He weaved his way through multiple Hornet defenders and beat the keeper to the cross corner of the net.

Senior Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.) continued his climb among the all-time great offensive players in Colby-Sawyer history with his seventh goal of the season. Ortega volleyed a feed from freshman Mohamed Jafar (Burlington, Vt.) from 20 yards out that curved into the right corner of the net. Ortega now has 24 career goals, which ranks him tied for fifth, while his 63 career points puts him in a tie for third all-time.

Senior Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) earned his eighth shutout of the season and 16th of his career. He made four saves in the win for Colby-Sawyer. Lyndon goalie Jason Marks (Newtown, Conn.) kept the Hornets in the match with nine stops.

Colby-Sawyer had advantages of 20-10 in shots and 8-2 in corner kicks.
