NEW LONDON, N.H. - March 31, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team split a twin bill with Thomas College today at Kelsey Field. Thomas won game one in nine innings by a score of 7-5 while Colby-Sawyer took game two 1-0.
BOX SCORE - GAME 1 - Thomas 7, Colby-Sawyer 5
The Chargers took a first inning 3-0 lead. Junior
Sean Gavin began the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by senior
Greg Mehuron. Gavin would score on a
Jon Wylie sacrifice fly. Senior
Justin Martin singled, scoring Mehuron and giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead. Freshman
Rob Wallace would single scoring Martin extending the Chargers lead to 3-0.
The Terriers would respond with a three run third inning. After a Thomas line out, freshmen Wes Perreault (Rochester, N.H.) singled and Jeff Richardson (Rochester, N.H.) doubled giving the Terriers a pair of runners in scoring position. Junior Cody Vigue (Skowhegan, Maine) would load the bases after being hit by a pitch. The Terriers would capitalize with only one out as, senior Ben Goodall would single scoring both Perreault and Richardson. Freshman Ethan Hurley (Hudson, N.H.) would single, scoring Vigue, to tie the score at 3-3.
The Chargers would regain the lead in the bottom on the inning on a Wallace single, giving the Chargers a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the sixth, the Terriers would take their first lead of the game as senior Thomas Cameron (Jackson, Maine) would single to score senior Joshua Grey (Eliot, Maine). Cameron would go on to score on a fielder's choice, giving the terriers a 5-4 lead.
Colby-Sawyer would tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the inning on a
Sean Gavin single.
The teams would remain scoreless until the top of the ninth when the Terriers scored two runs on a Ben Goodall double giving Thomas a 7-5 lead.
The Chargers would fail to capitalize on a two out single and Thomas would force a ground out to end the game.
For the Chargers, senior
Justin Martin had a 4-4 performance, scoring one run and one RBI. Sophomore
Alex Drost pitched 5+ innings giving up five runs on seven hits and senior
Greg Doucette picked up the loss on 3.2 innings of relief giving up two runs on three hits.
For the Terriers, Ben Goodall went 2-5 and had four RBI's. Junior Jake Chamblee (S. Berwick, Maine) pitched six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and junior Tom Babb (N. Yarmouth, Maine) earned the win on three innings of relief allowing only two hits.

Game two would prove to be defensive battle as the teams would not mark the score board for the first 5 innings. The Chargers would take the games only lead at 1-0, as senior
Greg Mehuron would single to score sophomore
Kyle Greenwood.
The Chargers would earn the win on the shoulders of sophomore
PJ Singster. Singster would earn the win pitching a complete game allowing only four hits.
The Terriers freshman Tim Locke (Waterville, Maine) would earn the loss going six innings allowing one run on six hits.
The two teams will meet for a doubleheader Sunday for an early start of 9:00am.
