Seniors Shine in Colby-Sawyer’s 11-1 Victory over Maine Presque Isle

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 21, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team received eight hits from their four senior batters and a strong pitching performance from their senior reliever in Thursday's 11-1 nonconference senior day victory over Maine Presque Isle (UMPI).

Colby-Sawyer improves to 11-18 overall, while the Owls dip to 6-22.

The Chargers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by junior Justin Martin (Lebanon, N.H.) and an RBI single from senior Brandon McFadden (Dummerston, Vt.).

The Owls responded with a run in the top of the second on an RBI single from freshman Seth Cote (Otis, Maine).

Sophomore Sean Gavin (Keene, N.H.) and senior Shane Hoagboon (Mayfield, N.Y.) each knocked in a pair of runs in the bottom half of the second to break the game open for the Chargers.
Hoagboon added another RBI in the fourth with his third double of the season.

Colby-Sawyer tacked on three more runs in the fifth on a two-run single from Gavin and an RBI grounder from senior Evan Leary (Concord, N.H.).

Junior Brendan Harding (Medford, Mass.) threw five innings and picked up his first victory of the season. Senior Mike Schilling (Middletown, R.I.) pitched two innings of relief and struck out four for Colby-Sawyer. Freshman Evan Kingsbury (Frankfort, Maine) suffered the loss for the Owls after tossing two innings and giving up seven runs.

Hoagboon led the Chargers' offense going 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Gavin had a pair of hits with four runs batted in. McFadden also had three hits, while senior Kevin Emerson (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Leary each scored a pair of runs.

Cote led UMPI with two hits and an RBI.

Colby-Sawyer travels to TCCC foe Roger Williams on Friday for a doubleheader with the Hawks starting at 12:00 pm. UMPI will be in Canton, N.Y. this weekend to play four games.
