MILTON, Mass. - April 28, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team was defeated by top seeded Curry in TCCC tournament action on Tuesday. Senior Tom White (Lisbon, N.H.) continued hit hot hitting with three homeruns in the game, including two in one inning. The Chargers will play on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Salve Regina, who lost to Endicott 10-0.
The Colonels took a 3-0 lead in their half of the first inning and stretched the lead to 8-1 after two innings. However, the Chargers battled back in the top of the third inning sending 12 men to the plate resulting in nine runs. White belted hit two two-run homers in the inning to pace the Chargers.
The 10-8 Colby-Sawyer lead was short lived as the Colonels struck for eight runs in the bottom of the third to take a comfortable 16-10 lead. Ralph Renzulli had a bases clearing double in the frame. After Curry loaded the bases for the second time in the inning, Tim Sweeney knocked everyone in with a grand slam.
White and junior Chris Hartery (Billerica, Mass.) hit back-to-back homeruns in the fifth to cut into the Curry lead. However, that would be the rest of the Chargers' offense in the game as the Colonels bullpen did not allow a run over the last four innings.
Hartery finished 3-for-5 and scored three runs. Freshman Ryan Lawless (Charlemont, Mass.) knocked in three runs on 1-of-5 from the plate. Junior Jarrett Lowe (Sudbury, Mass.) went 4-for-6, scored a run and knocked in a run.
