NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 2, 2009 – Senior Tom White (Lisbon, N.H.) hit two 3-run homers and drove in eight runs to lead the Colby-Sawyer baseball team to a 24-2 victory over the visiting Raiders of Rivier at Kelsey Field, Thursday evening. White has a team-high five homeruns on the season and moved into fifth place all-time in career homeruns with 12.
White got the offense going in the bottom of the first with a 3-run shot to left field after the first two batters reached base. After Rivier got on the scoreboard in the top of the third with a bases loaded walk, White connected for his second home run of the game over the left center wall. Junior Chris Hartery (Billerica, Mass.) made it back-to-back homeruns with a blast of his own to nearly the identical spot in left. Hartery went 2-for-2 with four runs scored, three RBI and drew four walks.
The Chargers added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings before exploding for eight in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the sixth, Rivier sophomore Tyler Eaton (Waterville, Maine) hit a solo homerun over the right-field fence to give the Raiders their second run. However, in the bottom half the Chargers had three walks, three hit-by-pitch and four hits. Sophomore Shane Hoagboon (Mayfield, N.Y.) knocked in one of his three RBI in the frame and finished 3-for-4. Freshman Joe Guidi (Derry, N.H.) went 4-for-5 and scored three runs in the win.
Senior Vinny Vilardi (Boxford, Mass.) gave up one run in four innings of work to earn his first victory of the season. Sophomore Mike Schilling (Middletown, R.I.) closed in the seventh, recording three quick outs with one strikeout.
Colby-Sawyer hosts Gordon on Saturday for a TCCC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Rivier hosts St. Joseph's of Maine on Saturday.
