MILTON, Mass. - April 18, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team was swept by Curry in TCCC doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels, who lead the TCCC with a mark of 17-1, won game one 9-8 and game two 4-2. The Chargers' conference record falls to 5-11.
In game one, the Colonels took an 8-0 lead after four innings only to see their lead cut in half in the top of the fifth. The Chargers scored four times on an RBI double from senior Chris Gaeta (Lynn, Mass.) and a three-run homer from senior Tom White (Lisbon, N.H.). For White, it was his eighth homerun of the season.
The Colonels added one more run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead. Colby-Sawyer scored two runs in the sixth and the seventh but was unable to overcome the five-fun deficit.
White finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and Gaeta added two RBI on a 2-for-4 day.
Game two featured two good pitching performances. Colby-Sawyer's Carter Malpass (Plymouth, Mass.) surrendered just one earned run in six innings of work. After picking up a save in game one, Page threw a complete game en route to the game two victory.
Justin Martin (Lebanon, N.H.) drove in both of the Chargers runs with a double to left field in the first inning.
The Chargers travel to Western New England tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
