NASHUA, N.H. - March 25, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer Chargers came back from a 7-1 deficit in the first inning to defeat Daniel Webster 16-12, on Wednesday evening. The team spread out 20 hits in the game with every player registering at least one. Batters two through six in the order each had three hits.
For the Chargers (3-9), senior Tom White (Lisbon, N.H.) hit his third home run of the season and knocked in five runs. Junior Chris Hartery (Billerica, Mass.) went 3-for-4 including two triples, three runs scored and two RBI's. Junior Jarrett Lowe (Sudbury, Mass.) went 3-for-6 with four RBI's.
Daniel Webster (0-10) was paced by sophomore third baseman Trevor Duggleby (Nashua, NH) who posted a 3-5 day with a pair of RBI. Shortstop Tyler Calkin (Hollis, NH) was 3-for-6 with one RBI. Right fielder Zach Cantor (Windham, Maine) was 2-4, with a pair of walks and two runs scored and rookie center fielder Nate Marshall (Groveton, N.H.) was 2-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Each member of the Eagles starting nine posted at least one hit.
After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, the Eagles batted around in their half putting up seven early runs. The Chargers would not go away as they chipped away at Eagles starter Nick Michaud (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and the DWC bullpen, eventually taking a 10-9 lead after four innings. Colby-Sawyer spread their advantage to 14-9 after seven complete and held on for the victory.
Rookie pitcher Kenny Martin (Brockton, Mass.) took the loss in relief of Michaud. Martin (0-1) allowed four runs, two earned in 2 and 2/3 innings of work, striking out two. Junior Joe Tamulonis (Linwood, N.H.) tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Eagles drop to 0-10 on the season while Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-9.
