NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team played their second straight day in a row as they hosted Lasell University in New London on Thursday afternoon that would be evenly matched the whole game.
Rapid Recap:
- After three innings of hard work off the mound by both starting pitchers, the Lasers would open up the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Ross Audet would single down the right field line and bring in Pierce Clare. They would grab two more runs in the inning on a single to center field that scored Audet, and Jared Whitby.
- The Chargers would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning that started off with a Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) sacrifice fly that would bring home Mike McLeer (Saco, Maine). Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) would tie it with one swing of the bat that went deep into left field for his first home run of the season that brought home Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT.).
- Scott Lyon would drive in the go ahead run in the fifth before Staffier would come up again in the sixth and hit a sacrifice fly that brought home O'Brien to knot the game at four. Whitby, for the Lasers would single in the eighth inning to score the games winning run.
On the Mound:
- Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) would get the start and the no decision as he pitched 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits, and four runs while also striking out six. Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) would come in for 1.0 innings of relief only giving up one hit. Connor St. Gelais (Tyngsboro, Mass.) would come in for an inning of work while giving up a run. Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) would close out the game for the Chargers, pitching the last inning.Â
At the Plate:
- Staffier would lead the way driving in three of the Chargers five runs, two of which came off the home run. O'Brien would also get a run batted in on a one-for-three day. Mike McLeer would get a triple to help set the Chargers up in scoring position early in the game during his two-for-four day.
