CHARGERS COME BACK TO WALK IT OFF AGAINST DEAN COLLEGE

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team hosted Dean College on Monday afternoon and would come back down six runs to end up walking it off against the bulldogs to win 9-8.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The game would open up with a fast paced three inning pitchers duel before the Bulldogs would open up the scoring in the fourth inning. They would score five runs in the innings to take a 5-0 lead, led by Tyler Giambra who would try in a run and put another in scoring position before coming in to score himself. Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT.) would get a run back for the Chargers in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run.
  • The Bulldogs would score another run in the sixth where Favata would drive in the sixth run of the game. Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) would come up for the Chargers and drive in Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) to make it 6-2.
  • The Bulldogs would add two more runs to make it 8-2. The bottom of the eigth would come around and the Chargers would make their charge back into this one. It started with a Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) sending a home run over the right field fence that would score Mike McLeer (Saco, Maine) to make it 8-4. Noah Staffier would hit a two out double to left field that would bring home Roeger and Dennis. Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) would keep the rally going with a double that almost carried over the fence that brought in Staffier. Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) would drive in the game tying run to make it 8-8, sending it into the 9th. 
  • Nick Johnson (Manchester, N.J.) would start the bottom of the ninth with a double, Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) would hit a single, followed by a Mike McLeer hit by pitch. Evan Dennis would come up with bases loaded and one out and hit a ball deep to dead center that scored pinch hitter Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.) and walk it off for the Chargers!
On the Mound: 
  • Mike Hogan (Piermont, N.H.) would get the start and would pitch four innings, striking out five, giving up six hits and four runs. Brady Young (Stratham, N.H.) would follow him, only allowing one hit, and no earned runs. Nick Fenuccio (Worcester, Mass.) would come in next pitching one inning, while allowing two runs on two hits, striking out two. Kam Lovelette (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) would be the fourth pitcher and would go an inning only allowing one hit. Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) would come in as the final pitcher and get the win after pitching an inning, allowing no hits, and striking out two. 
At the Plate: 
  • Evan Dennis would lead the Chargers at the plate as he would hit a solo home run and the walk-off single in a three-for-five effort. Cooper O'Brien would also go three-for-five with a solo home run and two runs batted in. Sean Roeger would go two-for-four with two runs scored, while Janai Cruz would go two-for-three with a double and a run batted in.

The Chargers have a quick turn around as they host Anna Maria tomorrow the 15th with first pitch scheduled for 2:30pm.
