CHARGERS OFFENSE SHOWS OUT IN 25-1 WIN OVER MITCHELL

Box Score NEW LONDON, CONN. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team traveled to New London, Conn. for their first look at some Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) where their offense exploded to a dominant 25-1 victory over Mitchell College.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers would pick up right where they left off, powering five goals in the first six minutes. Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) would start the scoring off an assist from Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H). Madeline Knight (Pownal, Maine) would score next with Ponzini dissing the assist. Finlayson would find another teammate in Andrea Smith (Gray, Maine) for the third goal. Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) would find her first goal on another assist by Finlayson. Smith would score again this time on an assist by Knight.
  • Finlayson would go on to find two goals herself, while Kuhlthau and Knight would score another goal a piece. First Year, Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J) would score her first goal of the game to end the first quarter, 10-0 Chargers.
  • Finalyson would score two more goals in the second quarter, and added another assist to Heather Hanson's (Barnstable, Mass.) first goal of the game. Kuhlthau and Smith would add two more goals in the quarter and Mitchell would score there lone goal of the game on a free position shot by Chloe Jennings.
  • Knight would kick off the second half with another goal for the Chargers, with Finlayson, Hanson, and Ponzini adding goals as well. Ashley Pelletier (Bridgton, Maine) would get the last goal of the period for her first. Vignola and Hanson would score two of the first three goals in the fourth while Elena Bronson (Bristol, VT.) would score her lone goal of the game. Smith and Hanson would score the last two goals of the game for the Chargers. 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Rose Finlayson would lead the offense as she powered in five goals and six assists. She would tie the record for most points in a single game with eleven, while also setting the new record for most assists in a game. 
  • Heather Hanson, Soph Kuhlthau, Andrea Smith, and Madeline Knight would all score three plus goals for the Chargers to help power the scoring outburst. Heather and Ponzini would lead the team in ground balls, both recording six each. 
  • AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H) would get her third win of the season, and would face three shots, allowing one goal. 
Post Game Press:
"The energy was great today." Said Sophomore, Rose Finlayson, "Everyone was supporting each other and we really focused on the little things throughout this game. I'm excited to carry out this momentum into the rest of the season for the more challenging games."
