CHARGERS FALL TO MIDDLEBURY, 9-3 ON THE ROAD

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team traveled to Vermont on Tuesday afternoon against the defending NESCAC champions, Middlebury College where they would fall 9-3.

Rapid Recap:
  • Middlebury broke the game open early scoring the first run in the bottom of the second inning on a Joe Basso sacrifice fly to center field that would bring in Will Ashley.
  • The pitching and defense on both sides would be phenomenal as the game would remain one to nothing until the seventh inning where the Chargers found themselves putting a run on the board to tie the game at one. Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) would score on a wild pitch thrown by Owen McCandles.
  • Middlebury would go on to break the game wide open, scoring six runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a six run deficit for the Chargers. Ashley and Basso would pick up three rbis between the two of them while Kyle McCauslan would drive in two himself for Middlebury.
  • The Chargers would attempt to make a comeback as they put two runs up in the top half of the eighth. Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, Vt.) would drive in a run thanks to a fielders choice that would score Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.). Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) would drive in a run himself of a rbi single into right field bringing in Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.). While the Chargers put up two, Middlebury would also put two more on the board extending the lead to 9-3.
