CHARGERS FALL IN SEASON OPENER TO EMERSON

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped their 2025 season opener on Saturday falling to Emerson by a 7-2 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • Emerson struck early in the fourth inning, putting up three runs on a two RBI double by Blake Benway, followed by a RBI single by Emerson's Jordi Arboleda would bring in Benway.
  • The Chargers would concede 4 more runs in the sixth and seventh innings before getting on the board themselves in the eighth. Graduate Student, Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) would launch his first home run of the season to get the Chargers on the scoreboard. Then, with runners in scoring position Junior, Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) would hit a sacrifice fly to right field that would score Sophomore, Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) for the Chargers second run of the game.
On the Mound: 
  • Junior Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) would get the start for the Chargers, working three shutout innings with one strikeout. Graduate Student Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) would get the loss tossing one inning allowing three runs with one strikeout. Junior Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) would toss one inning while facing four batters. Junior Rex Hill (Andover, VT.) would hit the mound for the next inning giving up three runs with one strikeout. Sophomore Hayden Goerlich (Amherst, N.H.) would get the next three outs allowing one run. Senior Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) would get the final three outs in just six pitches. 
At the Plate:
  • The Chargers were led at the plate by Juniors Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) and Dylan Watson who both went 2-for-4. Cruz had a single and a double while Watson picked up two singles, while also drawing a walk.

The Chargers will travel to Middlebury, VT. for a match up with Middlebury on Tuesday, March 4th.
