Playoff Preview: After Making History in the Regular Season, the Chargers Looks to Compete for GNAC Title

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team is ready to continue its historic season this weekend as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs start in pod play Friday. The Chargers will be matched up with Anna Maria on Friday in the first round of a double-elimination pod play format with a 2:30 PM start time.
 
No. 4 Colby-Sawyer Chargers (21-14, 10-6 GNAC)
No. 5 Anna Maria AMCATS (16-21, 9-7 GNAC)


Game Headlines:
Colby-Sawyer will make its GNAC debut in the playoffs with a young roster against a more established Anna Maria team which made the GNAC Championship last year falling to Johnson & Wales. 

Colby-Sawyer Headlines:
  • The Chargers have earned a 21-14 record under head coach Tom White. This is the first time the Chargers  won 20 games since the year 2000 and is the first time they will finish over .500 since 1999. 
  • The offense is led by graduate student Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) who led the conference in home runs (9) and was third in RBIs (44) this season. Sophomore shortstop Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) also had a stellar season slashing .386/.456/.543 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with 12 doubles and 22 RBIs. First year Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) also is someone to look out for who hit .429 in conference play this season with 15 RBIs. 
  • Sophomore Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) was an all-around star for the Chargers this season hitting .375 from the plate with 32 runs scored and 21 RBIs in the lead-off spot, while also leading the conference in ERA (2.20) with a 6-1 overall record and 24 strikeouts over 45 innings pitched. 
  • Senior Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) and sophomore Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) are also projected starters over the weekend. Rogers ended the year with a 3-2 record, 7.62 ERA and 29 strikeouts. Carpenter ended the year 3-3 with an ERA of 8.45 and 25 punch outs. 
  • In the closer spot will be junior Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) who this year has broken the all-time saves record in Colby-Sawyer history (6) and has not allowed a run since March 15th. Mullen goes into this week with a 2-0 record, 0.69 ERA, with 37 strikeouts to nine walks in 26 innings pitched. 
All-Time vs Anna Maria
  • The Chargers have a 20-15 record all-time against Anna Maria winning the last meeting on March 22nd by a 9-2 final in Paxton. The AMCATS have won nine of the last 11 meetings with the Chargers dating back to 2010.
