Men's Volleyball Takes Set off Nationally Ranked #3 Wentworth Institute of Technology

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers started off hot, taking the first set off the #3 Leopards of the Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) before dropping the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match 3-1.

Rapid Recap:
  • Trailing by three early in the first set, senior Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned the first Charger kill of the day with help from fellow senior AJ Gnieski (Needham, Mass.). Then, with the score 7-6, Leopard's advantage, the Plagata-Gnieski duo did it again to tie the match. From there, the Chargers went on a three-kill run to extend their lead, forcing a WIT timeout. Colby-Sawyer managed to hold their lead the rest of the way and take set one, 25-19.
  • Set two began quite similar with the Leopards running up a 3-0 lead early in the set. Despite the Chargers seven kills in the set, the Leopards offense was too much for Colby-Sawyer, dropping the second set 25-18.
  • Set three saw the Chargers on the board first with a kill from first year Christopher Huynh (Methuen, Mass.) with a helper from Gnieski. The men trailed Wentworth for most of the set until a four-point run sparked by a Plagata kill knotted the score at 18. The Chargers failed to reach 25 before their opponent, taking another set loss, 25-20.
  • Happy to see a fourth set, the Chargers scored first and kept close to the Leopards until an opposing five-point run made the difference. Colby-Sawyer quickly died off losing the fourth and final set 25-11.
Notes & Notables:
  • Gnieski collected over twice the number of assists from his previous season high of 13, with a total of 28 in four sets.
  • Plagata led the Chargers with 15 total kills and five digs.
  • In second place, in terms of kills, Huynh with five kills, two assists, and six digs.
