WESTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team fell in both matches on Saturday falling to Emerson College and Regis College by a 3-0 final.
Rapid Recap (Emerson College) L, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-12):
- The Chargers took a 2-0 lead off of a kill and an ace by junior Austin Ponsness (Queen Creek, Ariz.). The Lions responded with a 3-0 counter stopped by a sophomore Isaac Davies (Hinesburg, Vt.) kill. Emerson picked up the momentum jumping their advantage to 12-4, stopped again by a Davies kill. Three more kills by Davies and another by Ponsness, but the Chargers would fall 25-12.
- The second set started the saame as the first with Colby-Sawyer jumping ahead 2-0 on a kill by first year Aiden Fortier (Londonderry, N.H.). Another kill by Ponsness and Davies kept the Chargers in front but a 9-1 counter by the Lions put Emerson in front 12-6. Another run by the Lions pushed the lead to 24-10 and after a block by Davies and senior Finn Husband (Elk Rapids, Mich.) Emerson held on for the 25-12 win.
- Colby-Sawyer took a 3-1 lead behind kills by Husband and Ponsness, but Emerson stormed back to take a 14-6 advantage. The Chargers tried to respond getting two kills from Ponsness and one more from Davies and Husband, but the Lions closed things out at 25-12.
- Ponsness led the offense with nine kills to go with eight digs. Davies tallied eight kills and five digs, while Husband notched three kills. First year CJ Murphy (Sudbury, Mass.) picked up 19 assists to lead the team.
Rapid Recap (Regis College) L, 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-7):
- Regis took a quick 9-1 lead with Colby-Sawyer getting one kill by Davies. The lead hit 15-4, with the Chargers still only managing one kill in the set. Davies picked up one final kill, but Regis rolled to a 25-8 set win.
- The Pride took another quick 4-1 lead with a kill coming from senior Phu Ngo (Everett, Mass.). Ponsness picked up another kill to cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Pride fought back with a 11-3 run to pickup a 15-6 lead. Kills by Husband and Davies tried to get the visitors back into the game, but Regis countered again to seal the 25-15 win.
- The Pride took a quick 11-2 lead in the third set stopped by a kill by Ponsness. Another kill by Murphy cut the deficit to 11 points, but Regis battled to a 25-7 win.
- Davies led the way in the second match with six kills and five digs. Ngo added three kills and eight digs.
