Late Charge Earns Field Hockey Win Over Fitchburg, 3-2

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team scored two goals in the third and fourth period to earn their fifth victory of the season against Fitchburg State on Wednesday night. Freshman Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) scored the equalizer with just over 10 seconds left in the third. Junior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the final four seconds of regulation.

Rapid Recap
  • In the first period, the Chargers struck first on a goal by graduate student Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.). The goal was her third of the season and was assisted by junior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.). Six minutes later, the Falcons found the back of the net to even the score. Daly had a shot at the end of the quarter that was saved by the Fitchburg goalkeeper.
  • The Falcons jumped out to the lead right away in the second. Silvia had a shot go wide for the Chargers in the 23rd minute. Fitchburg took a one-goal lead into halftime.
  • In the third, both Silva and senior Chrissy Coffield (North Conway, N.H.) had shots early on that were saved by the opposing goalkeeper. As the stanza progressed, neither team was allowing the other to get anything going offensively. Junior Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.) had an opportunity in the 39th minute that was saved by the Falcon goalkeeper. Larson found the back of the net with 13 seconds to go in the third period to tie the game up for the Chargers. The goal was her third of the season.
  • A little over a minute into the fourth quarter, junior Caroline Koziol (Waterford, N.Y.) had a shot that was saved. Back and fourth the teams went. Sorenson and Daly both had shots, neither could get one by the Fitchburg goalkeeper. With under a minute to play Larson had two shots that were saved. Sophomore Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) had a shot seconds later that was saved by a Falcon defender. A penalty shot was given to Murph, but was missed. Daly redirected a shot by Sorenson into the net and gave the Chargers a 3-2 victory.
