Field Hockey Continues Undefeated in Conference after 7-0 Shutout

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team shut-out the Dean College Bulldogs with a 7-0 victory. The goals were split all throughout the team, with a total of 24 shots on goal. This win brings the Chargers to an overall 6-1 record and keeps their undefeated conference record intact.

Rapid Recap:
  • Early in the first period, senior Chrissy Coffield (North Conway, N.H.) started the Chargers off with a goal assisted by junior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.). Graduate student Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) scored the Charger's second goal of the game with help from junior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.). This would then take the Chargers into the second period with a 2-0 lead.  
  • The Chargers brought the same energy from the first period into the second, with a total of three goals throughout the period. Junior Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season, assisted by freshman Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.). This marks the first of many assists from Lippold. Senior Laura Guthrie (Keene, N.H.) scored her first goal of her senior season, assisted by senior Whitney O'Brien(Mont Vernon, N.H.). Bulldog player Sophia DiPaolo was issued a green card at the tail end of the second period, putting the Bulldogs down a player. The Chargers seized their opportunity, and Silva and Lanctot made the switch up with Silva scoring and Lanctot assisting. This brought the Chargers to a 5-0 lead. 
  • Senior Whitney O'Brien (Mont Vernon, N.H.). scored her first goal of her senior season, unassisted, to jump start the third period. This was then followed by sophomore Sarah Babb (South Yarmouth, Mass.) unassisted goal three minutes later. The Chargers exemplified ample defense throughout the four periods, as the Bulldogs finished with zero shots on goal.

"We played Colby-sawyer field hockey and it was a great team effort. We are off to a solid start this season and need to continue to stay hungry, as we have some strong upcoming competition. I really believe in this team and what we are capable of achieving this season."

  • The Chargers reached their highest scoring game yet this season, with 24 shots on goal and 7 goals. 
  • 11 total penalty corners were taken by the Chargers with four resulting in a goal. 
  • The last Charger goal of the night coming from Babb off a penalty kick goal.
