Rapid Recap (JWU):
- The Chargers began the first set of their first match trailing the Wildcats 2-4 after a couple attacking errors. The Wildcats went on a short run to spread their lead to nine while the Chargers reached four after an attacking error and a forceful kill by freshman Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fl.). Both teams finished the first set with 11 total kills, however, the attacking, serving, and ball handling errors were huge factors in the downfall of the first set.
- Colby-Sawyer, disgruntled with the outcome of the first set, came out fighting in the second. The Chargers got a quick go ahead as they lead the Wildcats 3-1 until a service error, an attacking error and a Wildcat kill even the score at 4. From here, the match seemed to go point for point with Colby-Sawyer in the lead by one or two points. The women were able to keep the Wildcats in their rear-view mirror for the remaining of the game and finished 25-23 to take set 2.
- The momentum shifted quickly in the beginning of the third set as the Wildcats put up four before the Chargers could get one. Back-to-back kills from juniors Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) and Olivia Werner (Williston, VT.) were provided in efforts to catch up, along with a Wildcat serving error and a quick attack by junior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) to put the Chargers at five. The fate of the game was revealed as the Wildcats went on an eight-point run to give them a 10-point lead. The Chargers, determined to catch up, could not stop the Wildcats from reaching 25 and making the score 2-1 going into the fourth set.
- Johnson & Wales eager to take the win, went point for point with the Chargers to start set 4. A Wildcat attack and a couple errors gave Johnson & Wales the lead in which they held for the remaining of the set. When comparing total kills for the set, the Wildcats overpowered the Chargers 16 to four which ultimately helped Johnson & Wales take the last set of the match 25-10.
Rapid Recap (UNE):
- An attacking error by the University of New England interrupted their eight-point run in the beginning of set 1. Cotten responded with a kill followed by a bad set by the Nor'easters and a strong attack by Werner to put the score at 8-4, Nor'easters. Another kill for both Cotten and Werner set the Chargers up at 6 before a fatal seven-point run gave the Nor'easters a 10-point lead. The Chargers quickly answered back with a run of their own, putting up six back-to back points. 16-12, Nor'easters. The University of New England's offense was too much for the Chargers as they reached 25 leaving Colby-Sawyer at 16.
- A serving error by the Nor'easters and two straight kills from Blinne and freshman Shaelyn Thronton (Scarborough, Me.) gave the Chargers an early lead for set 2. Five straight attacking errors changed the energy of the gym as the Nor'easters reached seven and the Chargers stayed at three. As the set continued, Colby-Sawyer managed to catch the Pilgrims and even the score at eleven until a couple kills and attacking errors sent the lead back with the Nor'easters who managed to hold it and take this close set, 25-23.
- Thornton and Harmon opened the third set with two stout kills. The set went point-for-point until a service error by the Nor'easters fueled a five-point run to give the Chargers a 12-6 lead. The women ran with it as they had 15 total kills for the set, six of them coming from Thornton alone, opposed to the Nor'easters six. The Chargers took set 3, 25-17.
- Showing a lot of promise for a comeback, the Chargers went point-for-point with the Nor'easters for the vast majority of the fourth set. A couple attacking errors by the Chargers allowed the Nor'easters to slip away and gain a seven-point lead. A kill by Blinne interrupted the opposing team's eight-point run but wasn't enough to stop the Nor'easters from advancing to 25 and going home with the win. The Chargers dropped their fourth set of the second match 25-12.
