Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Daly and Lanctot Each Score Two in Victory over Thomas College, 5-3

New London, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team defeated the Terriers of Thomas College on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match-up. The Chargers scored at least one goal in each of the four quarters. 
  
The Basics:

Rapid Recap:
  • Early in the first, junior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) fired a shot past the Thomas keeper to score the first goal of the game and her 12th of the season. Less than five minutes after, freshman Courtney Larson (Auburn, ME) laced one in with help from senior Chrissy Coffield (North Conway, N.H.). Down by two, the Terriers placed themselves on the scoreboard with a booming shot from Britney Gregoire to set the score 2-1 going into the second quarter. 
  • Minutes into the second quarter, Coffield earned her second assist of the day, this time for fifth year Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.), who found the back of the net for her fifth goal on the season. Trailing by two, the Thomas Terriers created a scoring opportunity with a penalty corner in which Gregoire successfully earned her second goal of the match, making the score 3-2, Chargers. With less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter, a shot by the Terriers was saved by sophomore Aleah Murph (Portland, ME) to keep the lead. 
  • Daly and Lanctot strung together the Charger's fourth goal of the match, coming in the fifth minute of the third quarter.  Quick to respond, the Terriers scored their third goal just 15 seconds after Daly's, setting the score 4-3. Another defensive save, this time by senior captain Jess Shatford (Derry, N.H.) kept the Charger's in the lead. 
  • The duo of Lanctot and Coffield did it again in the fourth, giving the Chargers the two-goal advantage. The Terriers continued to battle, recording three shots on frame within the last five minutes of the match, but goalkeeper Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) successfully turned all three away to finish the win.

  • Daly's 13th goal placed her in second place for most goals in a season in Colby-Sawyer Field Hockey history. Alie Jones holds the program record with 16 scores in 2016.
     
  • Coffield's three assists ties the record for most assists in a single match with former Chargers Olivia Thurber and Brittany Grandbois. 
     
  • Julia Lanctot sits just one assist away from second place in the all-time record books for helpers in a career. Lanctot started the season with 12 career assists and has added four this season. 

Up Next:

The Chargers are back in action on Wednesday, Oct., 6 on the road against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Game time in Standish is scheduled for 6 p.m. 
 
The showdown features the last two undefeated teams in the GNAC. Saint Joseph's has won 20 straight conference contests dating back to Oct. 14, 2017.
