Charger’s Fall in GNAC Match against St. Joseph’s (Me.)

STANDISH, ME. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team received its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) defeat on Wednesday afternoon to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine. 
 
The Basics:

Rapid Recap:
  • An early shot by the Monks was collected by goalkeeper Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) followed by another save for the junior in the third minute of the opening quarter. The first attempt to score was made by fifth year Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) but was unsuccessful as the opposing goalie recorded her first save. A team-assisted goal by the Monk's Emma Rutledge in the 13th minute led the Monks into the second quarter with a 1-0 lead. 
  • The lone Charger goal came from Lanctot who found the back of the net halfway through the second quarter to knot the score at one. Quickly to respond, a goal by Saint Joseph's (Me.) Olivia Esposito was assisted by previous scorer Rutledge to take back the lead. 
  • Pressing the gas, the Monk's stretched their lead to 3-1 with another goal from Rutledge. With great attempts coming from the Chargers defense, Saint Joseph's (Me.) was unable to score another goal for the remainder of the match. 
  • to battle, recording three shots on frame within the last five minutes of the match, but goalkeeper Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) successfully turned all three away to finish the win.

  • Wilkinson achieved a season high in total saves in a game with 17 on the match. 
  • Lanctot collects her seventh goal on the season. 
  • The Charger's record falls to 9-2 overall, and 5-1 in the GNAC.
