QUINCY, Mass. - January 23, 2020 - Sophomore
Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded 19 kills, but the Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 non-conference match at Eastern Nazarene Thursday evening. After the Chargers won the first set 25-23, Eastern Nazarene took the next three sets 25-14, 28-28 and 25-13 to win the match.
Eastern Nazarene improves to 3-2. Colby-Sawyer drops to 2-3 and will travel to Vermont on Saturday for two matches against NVU-Johnson.
Plagata led the Chargers with the 19 kills on .217 hitting. He added a team best 12 digs. Sophomore
Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.) reached double digit kills for the third time in the past four matches with 11. Sophomore
AJ Gnieski (Needham, Mass.) registered 34 assists.
Delfy Soler (Lawrence, Mass.) tallied a match-high 20 kills to lead the Lions. Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) was close behind with 18 kills and nine digs. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) contributed 39 assists to go with nine digs. Quinn Smith (Galway, N.Y.) picked up a match best 13 digs.
The visitors hung on for a 25-23 victory in the opening set to claim an early 1-0 lead.
The home side battled back to notch a 25-14 win in the second frame to level the match at 1-1.
Eastern Nazarene seized a 2-1 edge with a hard-fought 28-26 decision in the third.
The Lions clinched the match by cruising to a 25-13 fourth-set victory.
