April 9, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team won a pair of matches on Sunday in two different states. The team sent members to the University of Southern Maine and Johnson State College. The Chargers won both matches by a score of 9-0.
The Chargers improve to 7-9 overall and 2-0 in conference action. The team will host Green Mountain on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
In the win at Southern Maine,
Gustav Jigrup and
Alex Wright earned a hard fought 8-6 win over Kyle Curley and Samuel Holland at the top doubles spot.
Ryan Sawyer and
Dean Boodakian combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2 over Andy MacEachern and Chase Orava. Colby-Sawyer swept the doubles points with a forfeit at No. 3.
The Chargers then swept the all six singles flights. Colby-Sawyer won No. 2 through No. 5 in straight sets and picked up a forfeit win at No. 6. At the top spot, Jigrup erased a 1-0 set deficit to come back with the victory 3-6, 6-0 and 6-4.
Colby-Sawyer earned a conference victory by sweeping the Badgers.
Cass McCann and
Andrew Peloquin at the top doubles spot and
Erik Antonacci and
Mike White at third doubles won by an 8-0 score.
Matt Burke and
Alex Townsend combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2.
The team then took all singles matches in straight sets. Burke, White, Townsend and Antonacci each won without dropping a game. McCann won at the top flight with scores of 6-1, 6-2, while Peloquin dropped just one game en route to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the fourth flight.
