ORLANDO, Fla. - March 17, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team played six matches in six days in a busy spring break trip to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. 

The Chargers played a tough slate all week with multiple ranked opponents. The team will return home to play Nichols on Thursday, March 23 in a rematch of last year's NCAA First Round. Colby-Sawyer will then open conference play on April 1 at MCLA. 

Colby-Sawyer came away with a 5-4 win over McMurry in a first ever meeting between the team and defeated Edgewood 6-3. The Chargers also fell to Ithaca and nationally ranked Amherst and Kenyon. 

In the win over McMurry, Gustav Jigrup and Cass McCann combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and Ryan Sawyer and Dean Boodakian gave the Chargers a 2-1 lead after doubles with a 9-7 win at No. 2. Boodakian then picked up an impressive 6-1, 6-3 win at the third singles flight. Ross Kenney and Matt Burke battled through marathon three-set matches at No. 4 and No.5, respectively, but came out on top to secure the 5-4 victory for the Chargers. 

After Ryan Sawyer and Dean Boodakian gave a point to the Chargers by winning No. 2 doubles against Edgewood, the team would then secure the victory by winning five of six singles matches. Gustav Jigrup breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top flight, while Alex Wright, Boodakian and Ross Kenney won their singles matches in straight sets. Sawyer also won at the fourth flight in three sets. 

In a tough 6-3 loss to Ithaca, Alex Wright, Ryan Sawyer and Dean Boodakian won singles matches to account for the Chargers' points.
