Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 23, 2014 – The Middlebury College men's soccer team scored three goals in the final 30 minutes to earn a 3-0 road win over Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday afternoon.
Middlebury (5-0-1) travels to Colby on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. match with the Mules. Colby-Sawyer (3-4-1) resumes North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. contest at intrastate rival New England College.
The match was scoreless until 60:20 when sophomore Kirk Horton (San Francisco, Calif.) was able to control the ball in traffic inside the box. Horton put home his second goal of the season into the left corner of the net.
Five minutes later, a Colby-Sawyer player was sent off, giving the visitors an 11 on 10 advantage for the final 25 minutes.
Middlebury took advantage of the man up opportunity in the 74th minute. Sophomore Adam Glaser (Washington, D.C.) found the foot of senior teammate Noah Goss-Woliner (Waitsfield, Vt.) as he entered the scoring area. Goss-Woliner one touched the ball towards the left side of the goal where it hit the post and went in.
Goss-Woliner was involved in Middlebury's third goal 2:33 later. He sent a corner kick into the box where 6-foot-3 Kirk Horton headed the ball into the back of the net.
Colby-Sawyer's best chance came with 3:35 left in the match.
Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.) took a free kick from outside of the box and ripped the ball towards the goal. Middlebury keeper Greg Sydor (Madison, Conn.) jumped with an outstretched arm, which was enough to deflect the ball up and over the crossbar.
Sydor earned his fifth victory of the season with the one save. Colby-Sawyer goalie
Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) finished with 12 saves.
Middlebury finished the contest with a 31-4 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
