Women's Lacrosse Falls at Thomas, 14-6 in NAC Semifinals

Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine - April 29, 2014 - The six seed Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team fell to second seed Thomas College, 14-6 in Tuesday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament semifinal contest.

Thomas advances to face the top seed Spartans of Castleton in the NAC title game on Saturday. The Chargers end the season at 4-13. 

Thomas' Jillian Lambert started off the scoring at 28:46 on an unassisted tally, but Colby-Sawyer responded with back to back goals from Alyssia Janak and Michelle Upham to give the away side an early advantage. The Terriers took the lead back with three goals, including two from Jennifer Day, while the Chargers cut the deficit to one at 11:36 by Sara Berry.

The hosts proceeded on a 6-0 run to end the half with a 10-3 advantage. Day, who recorded her 48th goal of the season in that span at the 4:27 mark, broke the programs single season goal record previously held by Megan Denby '11.

Both teams traded goals on two separate occasions at the beginning of the second half, while Thomas held possession in the offensive zone for a bulk of the closing stages of the game, and netting two more for an even larger cushion. Colby-Sawyer did add another, as Berry added an unassisted marker with two minutes remaining.

Allie McCarthy was strong between the pipes for the Red and Black in the winning effort, making a career-high 13 saves. Her counterpart Kellie Lander recorded eight stops in the loss.

Overall, Thomas held a 13-9 edge in draw controls and a 27-25 advantage in shots, while the Chargers had 48 groundballs to the Terriers 38.

Sara Berry and Carly Stevens were named to the All-Tournament team.
