Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – March 27, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's lacrosse team fell to Keene State College, 16-6 on Thursday afternoon in the inaugural game at the Sally Shaw Veitch Track and Field.

The Owls improve to 3-2 on the season and are scheduled to host Southern Maine on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer drops to 2-3 and will host Husson on Saturday at noon for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener.
Keene received five goals from the team's leading scorer senior Eliza Witherbee (Newburyport, Mass.). Freshman Kelly Chadnick (Brewster, N.Y.) added three goals, while senior Julie Trombetta (Trumbull, Conn.), freshman Jenna Bellano (Brookfield, Conn.) and freshman Maureen Moran (Lebanon, N.H.) added two apiece.
Colby-Sawyer was led by
Katie Cawley (Abington, Mass.) and
Caitlyn Whearty (Hampstead, N.H.). The sophomore duo scored two goals each.
The visitors scored the first seven goals of the contest, which included a pair from Witherbee. Colby-Sawyer got two back before halftime on strikes from
Maryalice Gurnee (South Portland, Maine) and Cawley, but trailed 7-2 at the break.
The Chargers scored their third straight goal to begin the second half, but Keene responded with the next five to take a 12-3 lead. Colby-Sawyer cut the deficit to eight with a tally by Whearty with 17:08 left to play, but that would be as close as the Chargers would get. The Owls scored four of the game's final six goals, including the last by Moran to come away with the 16-6 victory.
Keene senior goalie Libby Curran (Londonderry, N.H.) notched her first win of the season and turned away four shots. Chargers goalie
Kellie Lander (Ossipee, N.H.) took the loss and made 14 saves.
The Owls outshot the hosts 38-14 and won 17 of 24 draw controls.
