Bowdoin Takes Two from Colby-Sawyer

FROSTPROOF, Fla. – March 12, 2014 – The Bowdoin baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader against Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday. After a lengthy three-hour rain delay and field change, the Polar Bears won game one 12-0 and game two 9-0.

Bowdoin improves to 4-0 and will play New Jersey City on Friday at Chain of Lakes. Colby-Sawyer drops to 3-4 and will play former CCC foe Roger Williams on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

GAME ONE – Bowdoin 12, Colby-Sawyer 0 - BOX SCORE

Bowdoin's Jay Loughlin kept the Chargers out of the scoring column in game one with five innings of one-hit ball. He also struck out seven.

Loughlin received plenty of run support early with Bowdoin scoring four, three and three over the first three frames.

The Polar Bears added a run in the sixth and one in the seventh en route to the 12-0 victory.

Erik Jacobsen had the big knock in the first inning with a two-run double to right field.

In the second, Chad Martin hit a towering three-run home run over the right field fence.

Duncan Taylor provided two of the three runs in the third with a two-run single to center field.

After a tough start to the game, Mike Peters surrendered just two hits over his final three innings of work in the loss.

GAME TWO – Bowdoin 9, Colby-Sawyer 0 - BOX SCORE

After a scoreless first inning, the Polar Bears put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second. The first three batters reached base and came around to score. John Lefeber also scored in the frame.

Bowdoin added a run in the third on an RBI double from Cole DiRoberto.

The Polar Bears put another four spot up in the fourth on three hits and an error to go on and win the night cap 9-0.
Michael Staes went five strong innings for Bowdoin. He gave up four hits and struck out three.

Bowdoin had four players record two hits in the victory. Cole DiRoberto had two knocks and a team best three RBI, while Erik Jacobsen scored three times.

Jeff Dunn led the Chargers with a pair of hits in three at-bats.
