NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 10, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team will make an appearance in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament for the second straight season and third time in program history. The Chargers earned the fourth seed and will host fifth seed Albertus Magnus on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer is 0-2 in the ECAC tournament with losses at Norwich (2-0) last season and at Framingham State (2-1) in 2007.
The Chargers and Falcons have split the only two meetings, which took place in 1991 and 1994.
Colby-Sawyer is 11-6-2 and is coming off a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) semifinal loss to Thomas College. The Chargers are led by senior
Alex Ortega who has 11 goals and seven assists, while NAC Rookie of the Year
Denali Sexton also has 11 goals with six assists. Senior keeper
Nick Austin has surrendered 12 goals in 16 contests for a .73 goals against average and has nine clean sheets.
Albertus Magnus enters the tournament with an identical 11-6-2 record and was 5-3-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). The Falcons fell to Mount Ida, 2-1 in the conference quarterfinals.
The Falcons have received goals from 13 different players led by sophomore Alexis Garcia's 13. Sophomore Alex Zapata leads the team with 10 assists. Freshman goalie Griffin Volta has allowed 20 goals in 18 matches (1.15 goals against average) and has five shutouts.
