Men's Basketball Defeats In-State Rival NEC, 98-81

Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – January 25, 2014 - Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball forward Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) scored a game-high 25 points on 11-for-19 shooting leading the visiting Chargers past New England College 98-81 Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Chargers improve to 9-7 on the season and 8-2 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).  The loss drops the Pilgrims to 6-11 overall and 3-7 in NAC play.

The two teams would battle back and forth through the opening three minutes of play before the Chargers went on a 6-0 run to go up 12-6 at the 15:08 mark.  Colby-Sawyer would continue their hot shooting throughout the opening half hitting 58% of their shots from the field going in front 42-31 with 3:17 left.  The Pilgrims would struggle to score in the final three minutes as the Chargers would close out the half on an 11-0 run heading into intermission with the 53-31 lead.

Colby-Sawyer would lead by as many as 25 points with 14 minutes left to play.  The Pilgrims cut the lead to 17 with 8:01 on the clock but that is as close as they would get as the Chargers finished the game shooting 54% from the field and held a 37-27advantage on the boards.

In addition to Dias, the Chargers were led by Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) who finished with 15 points and a team-high six rebounds.  Colby-Sawyer's Stephen Thorpe (Chicago, Ill.) dished out a career-high nine assists to go along with eight points, while Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) finished with 16 points.

Leading the way for NEC was Dezron Wilson (Hartford, Conn.) who finished with a team-high 22 points in an impressive 8-for-11 shooting from the floor and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.  NEC's Jonathan Byrnes (Bethel, Conn.) finished with 18 points, while Malachi Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points for the Pilgrims.

NEC returns to action Friday, Jan. 31 when they travel to take on NAC opponent University of Maine Farmington.  Colby-Sawyer College will hit the court on Friday, Jan. 31 when they travel to take on conference opponent Thomas College.
