Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 7, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team won both of its matches on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers earned a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State and followed with a 3-2 come from behind win over the University of New England. Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-2, while Bridgewater falls to 3-2 and UNE goes to 2-1 after beating the Bears 3-0 in the day's second match.

Colby-Sawyer 3, Bridgewater 0 – 25-17, 25-17, 25-13
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set, but the Bears responded with three straight points on Colby-Sawyer errors to cut the deficit to 9-6. After a kill by Bridgewater's Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H.) made the score 18-14 in favor of Colby-Sawyer, the Chargers finished the set on a 7-3 run capped by a
Stephanie Vecchio (Shelter Island, N.Y.) kill.
The beginning of the second set was played closely and featured three ties. With the score 10-9 Chargers, the home team used a 5-0 spurt, capped by an ace from senior
Julia Yee (Quincy, Mass.), to take a 15-9 lead. The teams traded the next few points before Colby-Sawyer's
Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) recorded two aces in the last three points to lift the Chargers to a 25-17 win.
The Chargers began the third set on a 4-0 run and never looked back. Bridgewater would cut the lead to two points on one occasion, but could not get any closer. Colby-Sawyer led by as many as 13 points en route to a 25-13 win.

Stephanie Vecchio's (Shelter Island, N.Y.) 10 kills. Senior
Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) added nine kills, while senior
Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) contributed seven. Sophomore setter
Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) collected a match best 31 assists. Senior
Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass) had a match-high seven aces and 13 digs.
Freshman setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) recorded a double-double of 15 assists and 11 digs to lead Bridgewater. Freshman Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) had a team best six kills.

The first set was the closest of the match and had six ties and four lead changes. The Chargers led 22-19 after a kill by senior
Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.), but the Nor'easters finished the set on a 6-1 run to take a 1-0 lead.
Colby-Sawyer came out strong in the second set on an 8-1 run and never looked back. UNE closed the gap to two points at 9-7, but the Chargers created separation with a 6-2 run. Junior
Stephanie Vecchio's (Shelter Island, N.Y.) kill gave Colby-Sawyer the 25-15 second set victory.
UNE led wire to wire in the third set, winning easily 25-14. After a 7-2 lead to begin the set, the Nor'easters continued to apply pressure and ended the set on a 6-2 run. Senior Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) had the set clinching kill.
The Chargers tied the match at 2-2 with a convincing 25-13 win in the fourth set. Colby-Sawyer began and ended the set with a pair of 7-2 runs. Colby-Sawyer won on a UNE attack error.
The fifth set started the same way as the fourth for the Chargers with a 7-2 run. UNE tried to battle back, but could get no closer than four points. Colby-Sawyer took the match 3-2 after a pair of kills by Vecchio and McBride.

Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) led all players with 14 kills and a .538 hitting percentage.
Emilee McBride added 11 kills and five total blocks. Sophomore setter
Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) recorded a match-high 42 assists. Senior libero
Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) collected a match best 20 digs.
UNE was led by Grayson Szczepaniak (Lakewood, Ohio). She had 12 kills and added three aces. Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) and Rachel McGahie (Westmoreland, N.H.) each added double-doubles with 11 kills and 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) also had a double-double of 38 assists and 15 digs.
