Daniel Webster Defeats Colby-Sawyer Baseball, 5-1

Nashua, N.H. - April 30, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell to Daniel Webster, 5-1 in a nonconference tilt Tuesday afternoon at Harvey Woods Field.

A rarity of nine different hurlers pitched one complete inning apiece combining to scatter seven hits and allowing one earned run as the host Eagles topped Colby-Sawyer, 5-1 in a matchup of intrastate foes as both teams warmed up for their respective conference tournaments this coming weekend.

Kyle Brigham (Hudson, N.H.) crushed a pair of triples knocking in two runs and Elliot Kilgore (Milford, N.H.) added two hits with two more RBI as the Eagles improved to 24-9, surpassing their 23-19 mark a season ago.

Devin DeCarteret (Pelham, N.H.) knocked in a single run for DWC.

Rob Wallace (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a pair of hits and knocked in the only run for the Chargers (19-18).

David Wesson (Pelham) was credited with the victory, improving to 3-1 overall after allowing one hit in the fourth as the Eagles plated four runs in the bottom the frame to take control.

The Eagle nine included starter Connor Milliken (Dayville, Conn.), followed in order by James Harvey (Nashua), Josh Sigman (Litchfield, N.H.), Wesson, Brandon Stevens (Manchester, N.H.), Jon Merritt (Charlestown, N.H.), Kieran Koch (New City, N.Y.), Mike Patane (Salem, N.H.), and Rich Lizotte (West Warwick, R.I.).

Mike Bowse (Tewksbury, Mass.) took the loss (2-2), allowing four earned runs on six hits, striking out one.

The Eagles chased Bowse in the fourth after starting the inning with five straight hits including a two-run triple from Brigham for a 2-0 lead, followed by a Kilgore RBI single, and a later run-scoring single from DeCarteret.

Brigham belted his second three-bagger the next inning with two out and Kilgore followed with his second single for a 5-0 lead.

Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.) singled to lead off the seventh for the Chargers, and came home on a two-out single from Wallace.

The Eagles now turn their full attention to the NECC Championship Tournament which they will host this coming weekend.

Tournament play begins on Friday as the top-seeded and defending champion Eagles face fourth-seeded Becker at 11:00 a.m., while second-seeded Mitchell faces third-seeded Elms at 3:00 p.m.

Colby-Sawyer heads to Castleton, Vt. on Friday to face Husson in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference tournament beginning at 2:30 p.m.
