WATERVILLE, Maine - April 27, 2013 - Thomas could not detain the Colby-Sawyer bats, dropping both games of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) baseball doubleheader on Saturday. The opener saw the Chargers hold on for a 1-0 win, then take the nightcap 7-3.
GAME ONE - Colby-Sawyer 1, Thomas 0
Both starters pitched brilliantly, giving up just four hits apiece. The lone run of the game came in the top of the fourth, as
Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.) had a sac fly to left field to score
Tyler Stotz (Amesburry, Mass.) from third.
Anree Benitez (Orlando, Fla.), Eric Sucy (Belgrade, Maine), Thomas Cameron (Jackson, Maine), and Charves would count for the four Terriers hits in the contest, all singles.
James McClamb's (Livermore Falls, Maine) solid performance was spoiled getting charged with the loss, despite throwing seven innings, striking out five, with only one earned run.
Kevin Keith (Quincy, Mass.) picked up his single season school record eighth win after throwing seven innings, yielding four hits with seven strikeouts.
GAME TWO - Colby-Sawyer 7, Thomas 3
The Chargers were able to get on the board early in the top of the first with
Cameron Knight (Cambridge, Mass.) grounding out to shortstop and scoring Stotz from third. Thomas however would respond in the bottom half, as Dillon Emerson (Concord, N.H.) singled to right field scoring Jeffrey Richardson (Rochester, N.H.).
Thomas took their only lead of the night in the top of the fifth, breaking the 1-1 tie on an error by the shortstop that scored Richardson.
Colby-Sawyer erupted in the top of the sixth to take a 7-2 lead, combining for six runs and seven hits.
In the bottom of the seventh Thomas fell short on the comeback attempt, plating home just one run on an error by the shortstop that brought home Richardson.
Sucy suffered the loss, throwing 5.1 innings, giving up nine hits, six earned runs (all in the sixth), while striking out two. CJ Pendleton (Saco, Maine) threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits.
PJ Singster (Sandown, N.H.) got the victory for the away side, tossing a complete game, allowing eight hits, striking out two, and giving up two earned runs.
Thomas will complete their weekend series against Colby-Sawyer tomorrow for two games. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
