Baseball Sweeps Lyndon in Monday Twin Bill

NEW LONDON, N.H. - April 22, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team won both ends of Monday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader over Lyndon. The Chargers won game one 6-0 and followed with a 6-2 win in the second game. 

Colby-Sawyer evens its overall record at 15-15 and improves to 10-8 in NAC play. Lyndon falls to 2-26 overall and 2-16 in the conference. 

GAME ONE - Colby-Sawyer 6, Lyndon 0

Junior Kevin Keith (Quincy, Mass.) threw a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts to earn his team best seventh win of the season. 

Colby-Sawyer opened the scoring in the third inning with three runs. Freshman Cody Pelletier (Lebanon, N.H.) and senior Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.) each had a RBI single in the inning. 

Chargers sophomore Rob Wallace (Tewksbury, Mass.) knocked in a run in the fourth with his second hit of the afternoon. 

Junior Andy Lapple (Newtown, Conn.) put the Chargers in front 5-0 in the fifth with a run scoring single to right field. 

Freshman Jeff Dunn (Bellingham, Mass.) crossed the plate with Colby-Sawyer's sixth run on a double steal in the bottom of the sixth. 

Lyndon's Dylan Newton (St. Albans, Vt.) recorded two of the team's four hits. 

Lyndon pitcher Devon Rollins (Winooski, Vt.) took the loss in his first start of the season. He gave up five runs in five innings and struck out five. 

GAME TWO - Colby-Sawyer 6, Lyndon 2

Colby-Sawyer junior Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.) knocked in the game's first run in the bottom half of the first. 

Lyndon responded in the top of the second with a pair of runs on five hits. Senior Robert Trucott (Sheffield, Vt.) and sophomore Ian Murdock (Wilmington, Vt.) each had a run scoring single in the frame.

The Chargers tied the game at 2-2 in their next at bat when junior Kyle Greenwood (Lyndonville, Vt.) scored on a double steal.

Monahan and junior Jake Szulak (Middleboro, Mass.) each knocked in a run in the bottom of the fifth to give Colby-Sawyer a 4-2 lead. 

Colby-Sawyer tacked on two more in the sixth on a RBI single from Tyler Stotz who then scored on a triple from Andy Lapple

Junior PJ Singster picked up his third win of the season with a complete game.

Junior Tyler Pelletier (St. Albans, Vt.) also went the distance in the loss. 

Colby-Sawyer hosts an important twin bill against Maine-Farmington on Thursday at 2:00 pm. Lyndon hosts New England College on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
